How the CO2 Fractional Laser Treats Acne

Published on January 22, 2015

Serving as a cosmetic weapon against acne and other issues related to an individual’s skin, the CO2 Fractional Laser treatment is a state-of-the-art method of resurfacing that continues to grow in popularity.

The Need for Such an Acne Treatment in Scarsdale

Acne is a byproduct of growing up, but with this unique laser treatment, is something that can be obscured in the hands of a skilled and qualified dermatologist. In some cases, the procedure may simply involve dealing with the early stages of acne or other minor aspects related to the skin. However, in some instances, scars caused by acne may require a bit more work.

With this fractional laser, the ability to regain the collagen that was destroyed is achieved. That’s because it helps to bolster the natural production of collagen that ordinarily takes place within the body.

What should I expect during this dermatological procedure?

A cream that numbs the skin is available to reduce the pain felt during the treatment. Once a fan cools off the application, the procedure itself is something that requires approximately only 15 minutes.

Afterward, the patient’s skin will have a pink hue to it, while also having developed a crusty appearance that will soon disappear. In certain instances, the treated area may have minor swelling or redness.

Post-Procedure Treatment for Patients in Westchester County

Making sure that the treated skin is maintained is a necessity for complete success. It’s important that the treated area avoids sunlight for at least a few days.

When complete healing has taken place (taking anywhere from a week to 10 days) the patient will need to apply sunscreen on a regular basis to the treated area. The higher the SPF the better, but the minimum should be 30. Women should avoid makeup during the first three to four days in order to avoid any conflicts with the treatment.

Undergoing the CO2 Fractional Laser treatment will first involve a consultation, so if this is something that piques your interest, contact the Manhattan Dermatology Center.
