Learn Why Botox Is A Normal Part of Being a New Yorker

Published on June 4, 2014

There are many people who have decided to get Botox treatments in NYC, and continue to receive them regularly. It’s more common for women to receive Botox injections in NYC, although men are also deciding to take the plunge.

Why do people get Botox treatments?

The purpose behind Botox injections is to temporarily remove wrinkles around the face. If the treatment is performed on a regular basis – which is every 4-6 weeks – it will seem as though the wrinkles are gone for good!

Any adult can have this treatment done by making an appointment with a dermatologist in NYC. The most common places for Botox treatments are wrinkles and lines around the eyes, mouth, and forehead; although anyplace on the face can have a Botox treatment.

What can I expect following a Botox treatment in Manhattan?

Some side effects that could occur are temporary bruising, or minor headaches that last twenty four to forty eighty hours. Side effects normally only occur after the first initial treatment, otherwise the individual should have no complaints or issues.

Having Botox treatments is simply the act of having fluid injected directly into specific muscles around the face using a very small needle. Botox causes the muscles to relax and discontinue contracting; giving the skin a softer appearance.

The entire process takes only a few minutes without the use of any anesthesia for the patient. It generally takes 3-7 days for the full effect to be visible, and it’s recommended to not continuously touch and harshly rub the area for at least twelve hours.

What should I do following my injection treatment?

NYC dermatologists tell their patients to not sleep on the specific area for at least 3-4 hours due to the fact that the fluid injected into the muscles can still be manipulated under the skin for a period of time after the treatment. Patients are asked to discontinue using any aspirin or anti-inflammatory medicines at least two weeks prior to the treatment, and the use of alcohol at least one week prior to the doctor’s appointment. Often times these items can cause a thinning of the blood, making a person more prone to some bleeding during the treatment.
