Rejuvenate Skin with A Fraxel Laser Procedure

Published on November 22, 2011

The Fraxel laser is a procedure offered at the Manhattan Dermatology & Laser Center that can rejuvenate the skin and dramatically improve the skin’s texture and appearance. It can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, treat hyperpigmentation, sun damage and acne scarring. The procedure can renew the skin on many different areas of the body, including the face, hands, chest and neck. This non-invasive procedure is safe for all skin colors and can be performed on anyone who wants to revitalize and refresh the look of their skin.

What to expect from Fraxel laser treatment in NYC

During the procedure, the Fraxel laser penetrates the layers of skin and reaches deep into the dermis, creating a small wound. This stimulates the skin’s generation of collagen and elastin, as damaged skin cells are replaced with fresh, healthy cells. Since only a small portion of skin is affected by the microscopic laser and the epidermis does not become damaged, the skin is able to repair itself much quicker as collagen is regenerated.

There are three different types of Fraxel lasers, each treating varying levels of skin damage. An experienced dermatologist at the Manhattan Dermatology & Laser Center will evaluate an individual’s skin and determine which type of laser will produce the most effective results. The application of a topical anesthetic ensures that the patient will not feel any discomfort during the procedure.

After the anesthetic has taken effect, the entire treatment time with the Fraxel laser takes less than 30 minutes. While the skin heals and regenerates new cells, the skin may appear red and there may be some swelling. Recovery time varies depending on the type of Fraxel laser used, and varies from a few hours to several days. The knowledgeable staff at the Manhattan Dermatology & Laser Center will educate each patient on how to care for their skin following treatment.
